What You Need to Know About Anal Cancer – It’s Your Life, Live It!

A simple dark question about miracles. What do you think?

A few days ago, I sat next to my father awaiting the doctor’s test results. He had a rare type of cancer and was still sick from his chemotherapy.
The doctor came in with a surprised look on his face. She said “It’s a miracle! The Chemotherapy worked. Tests came back negative. You’re cured.”.
My father replied with a voice reflecting his stress. “Figures”, he said.
I asked him about it, wondering what his problem was. He no longer has cancer. What’s his problem? He told me “‘Maricle’ she said. I survived my cancer.” and then followed up with his reasoning for not being so happy.
It didn’t make sense at first, but in time it became obvious.
I rolled him out of the hospital today on his wheel chair. Not one of those hospital ones they give all the leaving patients, but the one the hospital issued him since the cancer took his legs.
His arms, too. He is blind in one eye and nearly deaf.
From what I’m saying, it must sound like he’s in his 90s. He is actually 41.
It was not what he first said or the short lecture after that day. It was the finishing words that he said. The last question that caught me off guard and made me start thinking. “‘Miracle’ she said. But is it not a miracle that I got the rare cancer at the age of 15, lost my legs by 20, my arms by 30, my eye by 40? Is it not a miracle that my life spiraled down the drain before I was old enough to shave? The doctor even said it herself. There is a one in ten chance of recovering from that cancer, but the chances of getting it is one in a million.
‘Miracle’ she said. The recovery is a lucky draw. The cancer is the miracle.”.
So, what do you think?
Is the miracle the recovery or the cancer?

I don’t think I ever go pee that much, but today so far I’ve had to go pee a lot. Should I get a prostate exam?? I’ve only been going pee a lot today.
If I do have prostate cancer and my symptoms are starting today, do you think it’s already spread to other parts of my body??

Question about the breast cancer 3 day walk?

I’m trying to do the Breast Cancer 3-day benefiting Susan Komen for the cure and I have so many questions! This will obv be my first one and I can’t seem to find my answers in the FAQ. How many people need to be on a team? What is the min and max. I’m trying to form my own team. What about the team names? Does each person need to raise $2,200 or is that by group? Any ideas on how to raise the money? Thanks in advance.

I have a question about different forms of chemotherapy?

I do not have cancer. I have Psoriatic Arthritis. But, every 6 weeks for the last two years I have been getting Remicade infusions, and I take a weekly dose of Methotrexate. Recently a friend of mine in the nursing profession asked me “You do know that both of these are a form of chemotherapy don’t you?” I did know that, but it got me thinking.
What would the long term effects be, since there is no end to these IV treatments or taking methotrexate? Is it such a low grade of chemotherapy that it wouldn’t likely have long term effects? I know Remicade infusions are used for certain types of cancer as well. I’m hoping someone knowledgeable in this area can give me some layman’s information I may be missing.
I have asked my doctor, but he seems determined to remain vague about this.
Thank you.
Thanks hirschel, I hope so too…

Morality Issue – Curious about YOUR answer – Is a Life worth living ?

My wife works for a colon and rectal surgery practice. She came home and told me about a patient she has and it sparked an interesting discussion between the two of us. I would be curious to see the responses I get.
One of my wife’s patients is a Doctor who used to work at the same hospital. This Doctor was diagnosed with rectal cancer. This Doctor had to take some time off of work to recover with chemotherapy and such. While she was recovering from chemotherapy her boards were due and she missed them. The administration used this as a reason to fire the doctor. This same Doctor was on her way to make a recovery and was even going to start her own practice, when she began feeling sick again. After a some tests it was discovered that the cancer that was getting better had returned and spread to the lungs. This Doctor has only 6 months left to live. The Doctor my wife works for said she would try to help this Doctor/patient as best as she could – maybe even pro-longing her life for a year and half to two years. The Doctor who was the patient responded with a simple answer.
“Why?”
This former co-doctor turned patient is not from the area and has no family that is close. She never married and has no children. After losing her Job you can probably guess that there is no money either. As you can guess from her response, and as my wife fears, this Doctor sounds as though she plans to take her own life in some way. The discussion between me and my wife was – Can you blame her?
I feel that she is entitled and would be doing no wrong if she chooses to end her life at this point or sometime in the near future. I don’t think she should have to suffer and endure a painful end if she feels she does not want to. My wife disagrees – she thinks that it would be good to use that last little bit of life to get affairs in order and do something while enduring to the end. I can see the Point in that too – but I feel that a life ending in personal suffering such as this may not be worth it and there is no moral objections in my book about a suicide at this piont. What about you? What do you think?
Religiously what is the answer? They say suicide is a “sin” – can it really still be a “sin” if you are the Doctor in the story above?

My mom is about to start radiation treatment for cancer. Should I avoid contact with her if I’m pregnant?

Does anyone know if people being treated with radiation pass the radiation to others taking care of them?

Can You Help Me Answer Several Questions About Breast Cancer?

1. If a male’s mother had breast cancer, does this increase his risk of getting any type of cancer?
2. If someone underwent chemotherapy and radiation for chemotherapy and survives, and is also in remission and never has cancer again, will their experience with cancer and cancer treatment shorten their life span?
3. What is the likelihood of someone’s breast cancer relapsing if they successfully underwent chemotherapy and radiation for it?
Thanks for your help.
Thank you for the extremely helpful response, and I’m happy to hear that you have NED.
